New Webinar Series on how Researchers and Research Labs/Centers should use Social Media

I’ve been pondering (and practicing) the use of social media platforms by researchers and academic units (e.g., departments, colleges, labs, centers) for some time now, and got a recent opportunity to distil my observations and reflections into a workshop and webinar series for the NIEHS-funded Center for Leadership in Environmental Awareness and Research (CLEAR) Superfund Program. I created 3 short videos on (1) why to use social media and 3 guiding principles, (2) comparison of different social media platforms, and (2) some best practices and cautionary tips.

New Publication: “Black Frontline Workers Navigating Everyday Workplace Tensions through Professionalism”

My new paper, coauthored with Christine Nyawaga, is finally out in print at the Journal of Professions and Organization, part of a Special Issue on “Opening up the meanings of ‘the professional,’ professional organizations, and professionalism in communication studies.” Our paper is titled, Black frontline workers navigating everyday workplace tensions through professionalism, and you can see it here.

Attended Bystander Leadership Workshop by WSU-GEARS

Last week, I was thrilled to participate in an excellent day-long Bystander Leadership workshop, organized by the Gender Equity Advances Retention in STEM (WSU-GEARS) team at Wayne State University, funded by the National Science Foundation! It was great to connect with so many other wonderful folk, across the university, committed to equity, inclusion and belongingness!

Panel on Intergenerational Engagement at NIH PEPH 2024 Meeting

I recently participated in an interesting panel on engaging intergenerational audiences at the National Institute for Environmental Health’s Partnerships for Environmental Public Health (PEPH) annual meeting. I spoke of our work collaborating with community members, interdisciplinary graduate students and undergraduate students to design communication material on environmental health risks.
